Matungu Shrine stores the history of Great Wanga Kingdom in Africa. Wanga kings were buried in a sitting position in circular huts. Nabongo Wanga established the hereditary system of leadership. So far there have been 13 kings. The current one is Nabongo Peter Mumia II. Locally known as Eshiembekho, the shrine is managed by the Luhya Council of Elders. officially opened on December 13, 2008.
It takes 10 years for another king to be sworn in. The Centre home to the first artefacts used by the luhya community.
